Watermelon Favors

I had a favor table set up in the dining room next to the gift table and cake/deserts.

I used baby food jars that I had been collecting.  I spray painted the lids pink and used a glue dot to put on a punched ant.

I used my cricut to cut out a scalloped circle and a slotted circle and attached with black ribbon.  I hand wrote "Thanks a Melon" on each one because I wanted a more personal touch.  I filled each jar with jelly bellies in pinks, greens and a few black for seeds.

The display was SUPER cheap.  I went to the post office and acted like I was going to be sending packages of various sizes picked up several free flat rate shipping boxes.  I wrapped them in a dollar store roll of pink wrapping paper.  I spiced them up with ribbon and some cricut cut outs.

I also set out wallet sized pictures for family to pick up and take on the way out!  They appreciated that.

I was really pleased with the how the favors turned out.  I loved the display, I loved how inexpensive it all was and all the guests loved them too!

Tomorrow's post will be my FAVORITE!  I was sooo happy with how the cake table and desert table turned out.

This is an extreme post...stick around there are lots of goodies to see!

Yay for party decorations! 

The party was held both outside and inside.  We set up 4 long tables outside on our driveway (which luckily is in the shade all evening) to accommodate roughly 50 people.  We also had the kitchen set up as a buffet for people to get their food and drinks, and the dining room was desert/cake/gift central!

For the outdoors I made tissue paper poms in dark pink, light pink and white.  My darling husband was kind enough to get the ladder out and hang a long string from one edge of the house, to a tree across the drive way and back to the other edge of the house.

I made mini tissue poms to put on the tables.

 I used an ant punch to make "confetti" and I used glue dots to make a trail across the tables.  It gave it a picnic-y feel.

I made table cloth weights using clips from the dollar store (5 for $1.00), then I hot glued on flowers (also from the dollar store).  They added a perfect touch and served a purpose too.

 These cuties were up here and there.  You can't tell the size but they are 12 inches across.  I love the mega huge ric rac!

 Card Basket

 I used my cake stand/dome to showcase her tutu she wore for pictures.  I sprinkled watermelon seeds around and put a thank you note.  This sat on the gift table.

This was our year of pictures gallery in the kitchen. 

We strung yarn between two doorways.  I mod podged pink scrapbook paper on the clothespins to give it a more finished look.

Cheesy picture of me, but it was the only one I have to show you my favorite food from the evening.  We made regular old lemonade and to theme it up I used the watermelon from the fruit salad bowl to make ice-cubes.  Just 2 watermelon cubes made plain old lemonade AWESOME!

Watermelon Invitations

I really wanted to set the tone for the party by making the watermelon invitations fun, girly and different from printed out card stock.

I used 2 different colors of pink card stock and 2 colors of green card stock to assemble.  I also used large pink ric rac and letter stamps for Lotte's name.  I printed out the invite on the light pink circle and used my handy dandy martha circle cutter to cut them out.

I liked that they opened as a semi circle, sort of like a slice of watermelon!

I used lime green envelopes and put our little stamps to liven them up.

We had an after party for adults after Lotte went to bed.  Here is the little invite insert.  This was just for some of our close friends.

We sent out about 40 invitations.  It was a HUGE party.  We had about 50 people over!  Tomorrow I'll show you how we decorated the house and the outside party area...I'll also tell you what we fed those 50 people for dinner!

This is one of my most favorite creative adventures that I have had the stomach to undertake!  I knew I wanted the theme to be watermelons literally 11 months before her party.  I had a hard time finding many parties online that fit what I was looking for, so I had to start without much inspiration.

I'm posting this now because I am starting to get geared up for Lotte's second birthday party.  They tell me that it won't or can't be as big as last year's party but I'm not sure I can actually scale back....it's very difficult to restrain myself.

I can't wait to share with you! I hope you be nice because I LOVE everything about my LITTLE girl's first BIG party!

Who has 2 thumbs and will have a better blog in 31 days? This Girl!

I'm 99% sure I am going to be participating in the SITS Girls' 31 days to a better blog program.

I don't want to wait to get started but I think it would be advantageous of me to start when they have their big party in June.  I'm going to cheat and look at the FORUM'S from their prior parties so I can start getting myself together and then I'll "officially" participate with all the ladies in June.  I'm excited to connect and meet new women who are in the same boat as I am.  I want to be able to provide a better blog for both myself and readers.  I also think that this program will help me control the flood of ideas and the multitude of directions that I have been going in.
